Olympic Champion & World Culinary Champion
Roock has been head chef at the five star hotel Castello del Sole in Ascona, Switzerland. 37-year-old Mattias’ roots are in the far north of Germany – where his parents run a gastronomic business in the family’s second generation. Mattias Roock has repeatedly proven his skills and expertise in competitions: in 2001, immediately after finishing his apprenticeship, he won the gold medal with the German junior national team at the Culinary Olympics, and in the same year, he became world cooking champion. Working stages with Gordon Ramsay in London and at Kempinski’s in St. Moritz, Shanghai and Doha followed.
Luxury resort Castello del Sole
The Castello del Sole is a luxury resort beyond comparison. Luxury means to arrive and then indulge in the unique unconditionally. In the midst of 140 hectares of breath-taking nature, you will find everything you dreamed of, including a private beach and an avian sanctuary.
The luxury resort’s restaurants are unique and decorated: at the gourmet restaurant «Locanda Barbarossa», with 18 Gault Millau points and 1 Michelin star, plus a green Michelin star for sustainability, you will be seduced by the performance of head chef Mattias Roock and mâitre d’hôtel Sergio Bassi. Roock: «My cooking is characterised by Mediterranean lightness and based on the principles of classic French cuisine. A pinch of cheeky culinary adventure inspired by my culinary travels gives my creations a truly personal touch».
